Prerequisites for Raising a Guide Dog Puppy with Our Club
Our puppy-raising group has established the following prerequisites for individuals (youths 9 years of age and older and adults) interested in becoming new puppy raisers or puppy-sitters:
1. Complete an initial questionnaire.
2. Attend a minimum of four meetings that are held on the first
and third Tuesday evenings of each month and three “puppy”
meetings held on the second and fourth Tuesday evenings of each
month. The total of seven meetings should be completed within a
three month period.
3. Attend one graduation exercise at Guide Dogs for the Blind,
Inc. in San Rafael. Graduations are held monthly at 1:30 pm. See
the graduation schedule.
4. Arrange for a family home orientation and interview with one
of our leaders. This will consist of a family interview (with all
family members present) and a house and yard safety check.
5. Puppy-sit one of our puppies in training for a three-day, two-night
period as a family project. Contact one of our leaders to make arrangements.
6. Sign a contract with Contra Costa County Puppy Raising Club.
7. Complete the formal application packet for Guide Dogs for the
Blind.
If you're still interested in more information on becoming a puppy
